Why does it seem as if asians are dominating the world of Youtube as opposed to any other race? Is there perhaps a stereotypical view behind this?

  1. I believe the reason that Asians are currently "dominating" youtube or generally the most popular when it comes to channels is because of the content they put out. The fact is that youtube gets a majority of its views from America and other English speaking countries and in these countries they generally focus on teaching "white" history or culture. Basically most of the things that people generally rarely learn about asian history, culture, ideals, etc. so when they see these videos on youtube they find them to be more interesting. Also because many of the Asians on youtube like to play on the stereotypes for their videos which make them funny and interesting to a lot of people.

  2. I dont think Asians are dominating Youtube. You might feel this way because we only watch vidoes from people of Asian background but theirs a lot more race that are being shown. Im sure if youre not of Asian background youre not watching vidoes of asians. i also think that Asians are more proned to be stereotyped. I dont take these stereotypes as offensive and i tend to just laugh at them because i can relate to it.

  3. I personally don't think so. it's just we find it more attractive to watch Asian's channel so we watch Asian's channel more often. And then, because of that reason, we seldom find the other channel, but i don't think that Asians dominate Youtube is true.

  4. I also feel YouTube is being dominated by Asian-users. YouTube is worldwide community and there are thousands and thousands of video posters of all races around the world. You may think the majority of YouTube users are Asian because you, yourself, watch videos that come from posters that are Asian. For me, I subscribe to many users from all different types of video categories and all different races.

  5. I don't feel that Youtube is being dominated by Asian channels. While there are many popular youtubers that are Asians (such as kevjumba, nigahiga, ect), I see many other ethnicities that are also very popular. Content is a huge deal in youtube videos. While race does influence some viewers, I think if the content of a popular video by an Asian youtuber was transferred to youtuber of another race, the video would be more or less popular. I also think that since Asians are not portrayed in media as much as other races, Youtube is a way for people to connect with Asians.

  6. I believe YouTube isn't being dominated by Asians, but just that it's our epistemic position, our point of view since we're Asians that we notice Asian videos and remember them over others. If you check out the most viewed videos for the week, they are usually dominated by daily channels like SXePhil, shaytards, kassemG, shanedawson, etc.
