This is the course blog for ICS24/ELIT24, Asian American Literature, at De Anza College
I think that the way Mad TV portrays Asians in the video is according to a lot of the stereotypes. They use the stereotypes such as asians being short and having really tricked out cars and play on it by making it humorous. For example when he shows the girl his car they play on the fact that all the modifications on the car are really ridiculous like when he told the girl that he glued glowsticks on the bottom and even had a playstation 2 installed in.
I think the video was very funny and the Asian man was acting crazy. The girls did not talk to him and the black man was angry at the asian man. When he showed his act to other people, they did not understand what he did.
I don't believe all Asians have the same personality and act identical the way the man in this video was played. There was definitely some stereotypical things such as the Asian with a modded car and obsessed with it. There is definitely a lot of Asian boys who are very into their cars and like to show them off for their appearance.
I believe that it is rather accurate overall. Especially the thing about Asians and their cars. Not saying every Asian shows off their car in that way but they do show it off in a similar fashion. The only thing I would say is off is the fact that not all Asians have the actor's personality and lack of awareness and most are pretty conservative overall.
This video is hilarious and literally made me laugh out loud. It portrays some of the more recent stereotypes of Asian Americans; Having a nice car, picking up chicks, playing dance dance revolution, ect. I feel like it was extremely over-exaggerated, but that is what made it more humorous.
