    Some Americans act with hostility towards Vietnamese immigrants (i.e. Nguyen's next door neighbor's attitude towards Nguyen's father), while other Americans discriminate and stereotype Vietnamese immigrants (i.e. Nguyen being placed in ESL class even though she knew English well).
