Addiction to Social Networking

In the current age, more and more people have grown addicted to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to keep in touch with each other. Is this necessarily a good or bad thing? Have we grown too dependent on social networking to keep in touch with people? Should we encourage the use of electronic means to contact each other via emails and instant messaging instead of more traditional methods like letters, phone calls, and face to face meetings?

  1. It's a good thing, we have easier access to communication.

People just need to remember how to socialize in real life, that it's good to call people up instead of just texting them, face-to-face meet ups are always better than just skyping.

However, technology isn't bad. If it wasn't for skype or facebook, i'd never be able to see what my brother is up to in the Army, i'd never get that visual picture.

  2. I think this is a good thing for the world because it allows us to have access to communication and other things which make daily life much easier. The fact is a lot of asian families have relatives that live across the world in countries thousands of miles away and with the invention of things like facebook, skype, smart phones, etc. these families now have a way to keep in touch with each other. Letters and face to face conversations are good as well and can not be replaced by a webcam but the fact is that in this day and age when people are so spread out across the world, we need things like the internet, email and phones to do business, keep in touch, keep up with the world and more.

  3. I don't see anything wrong with Social Networking. I find it as a good way to keep in touch with friends and family. Nowadays I noticed that some professors are starting to use social networking to provide students with information about class. Technology is changing a lot. Not saying that it is a bad thing, but there is always new ways of communicating with others. There's no problem with the traditional way. I myself still call friends, and always have face to face meetings with them. It's just that a lot of people nowadays rely on social networking to keep in touch with friends and family when they are busy themselves. I use facebook to keep in touch with my family from across the states.

  4. Throw away your phones and computers. Do it! Go outside, run, play, learn something new. Help out at the local shelter. Hit the gym. Go to parties, drink till you throw up. Something.. Hahaha this generation is a little geeky with their toys.- Tu Nguyen

  5. I do not think that society should encourage social networking to the youth because I believe that the youth should practice more on their social skills on and off school campus grounds. Many kids in today's society rarely call...instead they text.. and one ever writes a letter anymore.. most just email. Being too dependent on technology can lead to poor social skills but if the teens want to talk by using their cellphones most of the time then let them and they can see for themselves how they turn out in the future.

  7. It is a good way to communicate with each other, but we should not rely on it too much. There are other things that would be more beneficial.
